Bill and Viola Richards
William (Bill) Richards, Sr. and Viola Richards are tribal elders of the Tolowa Indians, and direct descendants of the once great village of Yontocket, center of the universe for the Tolowa people. Bill has served for more than 20 years on the Tribal Council governing the Smith River Rancheria. While he was once an avid duck hunter, today Bill and Viola are more likely to spend some of their free moments kayaking the coastal lagoon, observing the haunts of beaver, otter, and birds.
